Crocus L’Atelier Malbec 2020, Cahors, France

Paul Hobbs and Bertrand Vigouroux established Crocus to bring about the evolution of Malbec in Cahors. The Vigouroux family has produced wine in the region since 1887, and in 2009 Bertrand Vigouroux partnered with internationally renowned winemaker and Malbec specialist Paul Hobbs. The result: wines that redefine Cahors Malbec, blending Vigouroux’s experience, Cahors terroirs and historic plant material with Hobbs’s vision, methodology and expertise with the varietal. Terroirs: Fruit selected predominantly from the 4th and 3rd Terrace. Winemaking: Hand harvest. Fermentations in stainless steel tanks. No barrel ageing. Tasting notes: Dark garnet color. Fresh aromas of violet, cherry blossom and wild flowers seamlessly blend with red and black fruit such as Burlat cherry and blackcurrant jam, finishing with a hint of spice. The palate is smooth, giving black cherry, fresh raspberry and ripe blueberry flavors, finishing with firm tannins and bright acidity.
