Chateau D’Aqueria Tavel Rose 2022, France

Chateau d’Aqueria is prototypical Tavel (an appellation only applied to Rose). Blended from the Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Clairette varieties native to the Mediterranean basin, the wine takes its luminous rose color from brief contact with the skins of these deep purple grapes. Grapes are handpicked from Chateau d’Aqueria’s own vineyards, which span 163 acres across the sandy slopes of Tavel. The mesoclimate is ideal for cultivating Grenache and crafting crisp, fresh rose wines. The grapes are hand harvested and destemmed, followed by a maceration of 24 to 48 hours to extract color. The grape varieties are then blended two by two, bringing great aromatic complexity to the wine in addition to their own distinctive character. After fully “bleeding” the vats (drawing off the juice), fermentation at regulated temperatures (18 to 20 degrees C) then takes place. The different grape varieties are then all blended together and age for several months before being bottled at the estate. “Intense ruby red color. Nose: Complex end powerful, with notes of red fruit (strawberry, raspberry). Mouth: Round and chewy, with pleasant mineral notes combined with aromas of red fruits. Finish: lovely balance of complexity and freshness.” – From the winery
