Pira Barolo DOCG Vignarionda 2018, Serralunga d’Alba, Italy

Our family has been linked to the hills of Serralunga d’Alba since the end of the 800s. Five generations later, we step on the same land, with the same castle on the horizon. This is an intense, robust, austere Barolo, but at the same time harmonious and balanced. Vineyard: Municipality of Serralunga d’Alba, 100% Nebbiolo. Terrain: Calcareous – Clayey. Altitude: 330 meters above sea level. Exhibition: South-West. Sensory profile: It is intense garnet red in color. The nose is striking for its great complexity, elegance, nuances ranging from berries to sweet tobacco, to deep and intriguing balsamic scents. On the palate it is a rich, harmonious wine, with an extraordinary persistence. The vinification of Barolo Vignarionda takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature for about 18/20 days. Aging lasts 24 months, of which the first year in 225-liter French oak barriques and the second year in large Slavonian oak barrels. Vignarionda is the cru of Serralunga par excellence, undoubtedly among the best known and most appreciated MGAs. It is in fact an exceptionally suitable vineyard for Nebbiolo, which here gives rise to a unique and unmistakable Barolo.
