Poderi Einaudi Barolo DOCG Cannubi 2018, Piedmont, Italy

Obtained from the grapes of Nebbiolo that come from Cannubi (Barolo) at 220 m. of altitude, positioned at South and South-East, where the land is composed of grey and white Sant’Agata marne, rich in sand. A wine of great class that expresses the elegance of the territory, of a brilliant garnet red turning slightly amber with time, exuberant in its fragrance of fruit and spices, of great body, full and velvety with a long final taste of goudron and spices. The tannic characteristics guarantee a very long life in bottle in the best vintages. Soil: Grey and white marne of Sant’Agata (55% clay, 30% sand, 15% limestone). Exposure: South/South-East. Winemaking: Fermented in steel and concrete contenitors under strict Temperature control (29 degrees C – 31degrees C), post-fermentation maceration, racked after 22/25 days, decanted, and by maintaining the right Temperature malolactic process is induced. Several months of maturation in barrels on oak, thereafter a long period in bottle to complete the aging. The 2019 vintage was characterized by a long winter season, which led to a slight delay in the spring season. Despite this, the vegetative recovery was regular thanks to the abundant rains. The high temperatures of the summer months have created the conditions for rapid vegetative development. Tasting notes: Produced in the famous zone Cannubi in Barolo, it shows the typical garnet red color with orange reflections. Nice expressive nose with balsamic notes and sweet spices, whose complexity is then ensured by delicate aromas of blackberries and wild strawberries, mint and violet. The entrance on the palate is striking, solid and compact, followed by a refined structure that transforms towards a more slender and discreet style in the finish. The gray-whitish marl soil of the Cannubi gave the wine great elegance and a pleasant mineral note.
