Peju Cabernet Franc 2019, Napa Valley, California

In 1983, Tony and Herta(HB) Peju purchased thirty acres in the famed Rutherford district of the Napa Valley. They worked hard to build a winery, plant estate vineyards and raise their family. They remain family-owned, with their two daughters, Ariana and Lisa guiding the business today. The beginning of the 2019 growing season was defined by copious amounts of rainfall and late season soil moisture. The long, relatively mild finish to the season helped to preserve freshness and finesse in the fruit with abundant hang time teasing out great color, structure, and soft tannins. All in all, exceptional fruit with bright acidity and ample texture promises an amazing vintage. Tasting: This wine is full of elegance and grace. The smooth round entry is filled with a mosaic of fruit and spice notes, displaying flavors of dark cherry, brambleberry, dried savory herbs, allspice, and vanilla. Complete with complex layers and structured tannins, the finish is gorgeous. It is a beautiful rendition of Cabernet Franc. Composition: 75% Cabernet Franc, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged in French and American oak, 37% new, for 9 months.
