Andis Reserve Old Vine Zinfandel 2020, Original Grandpere Vineyard, Shenandoah Valley, Sierra Foothills, California

“We take pride in partnering with vineyards that mainly use head-trained methods and have either own-rooted plants or low-vigor rootstocks like St. George. A few of these vineyards were established during the California Gold Rush in the mid-1800s. We are humbled to contribute to the preservation of these Heritage Vineyards by working closely with growers to produce some of the finest wines in California. The small-berried grapes from these head-trained vines grow limited crops, which results in Zinfandels with exquisite taste and sophistication.” Original Grandpere Vineyard was planted in 1869, and one of the oldest documented Zinfandel vineyards in California, still own-rooted. Farmed by only four families over its 150-year history, the vineyard produces a very small amount of fruit each year, and every ton is prized by winemakers. Andis is one of only four wineries fortunate enough to get fruit from this vineyard. Richness and ripeness show off great fruit flavors in this full-bodied but fresh and vibrant wine from a historic vineyard. Moderate tannins frame the exuberant raspberry and blackberry flavors nicely and blend with good acidity for a very good balance. 100-% Zinfandel. Fermentation: Temperature controlled steel tanks, native. Aged 18 months in 28% new French oak barrels.
