Keenan Cabernet Franc 2021, Upper Bowl Vineyard, Spring Mountain District, Napa Valley, California

This wine was produced exclusively from grapes grown on the Keenan Estate located in Napa Valley’s Spring Mountain District. This single vineyard Cabernet Franc comes from the highest elevation vineyard (approximately 2000′), aptly named the ‘Upper Bowl”. The fruit was hand-picked. After de-stemming, the must was inoculated with Montrachet yeast and fermented in a stainless steel tanks. The wine aged in French and American oak barrels for 20 months. “At nearly 2,000 feet, our estate Cabernet Franc grapes grow above any other grape on our mountain vineyard. On this particular part of the property, these grapes are almost always the last ones to come in for harvest, allowing for slow and even development of the fruit. Wines made with this grape typically feature towering aromatics, waves of lavender and violet, along with touches of basil and sweet rosemary. Soft layers of savory and fresh earth buoy up the floral qualities. Fresh crushed raspberry and underripe black cherry meet the palate, tied up with layer after layer of the integrated structure. Our Cabernet Franc grapes deliver wines with surprising weight and impact on the palate while offering an ethereal and delicate finish.”
