J.J. Prum Estate Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese 2020, Mosel, Germany

Since 1156 the Prüms have called the village of Wehlen home. The vineyards are planted 95% Riesling. The Joh. Jos. Prüm estate ferments its Riesling almost exclusively with indigenous yeast. Annual production is 15,000 cases. The terroir makeup of Wehlener Sonnenuhr is pure, weathered devon slate, quite stony. Vintage 2020: The Kabinette, Spätlesen and Auslesen are remarkably ‘classic’ in style, possessing refreshing acidities particularly at the lower Prädikat levels. It was not a vintage with high botrytis ratio overall, yet we could select some beautifully shrivelled berries for the very high Prädikat levels and also some botrytized grape clusters in the Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Graacher Himmelreich and Zeltinger Sonnenuhr for some very fine Goldcapsules.
