Domaine de Cristia Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2021, Rhone, France

The property of the Grangeon family for many generations, Domaine de Cristia is located in Courthezon, on the eastern sector of Chateauneuf-du-Pape and spreads over 58 hectares. 90% of the terroir is composed of sandy/clay soils planted on the Eastern sector of the appellation (lieu-dit ‘Cristia’). These parcels of Chateauneuf-du-Pape benefit from a cool, fresh north-easterly exposition which allows the grapes and wines to develop supple, elegant tannins. One separate parcel, situated on the highest part of the appellation (lieu-dit ‘La Roquette’), is covered with round stones formed by the former passage of the Rhone, and benefits from permanent sunshine. The heat of the day is absorbed by the stones and given off during the night, which creates a constant even temperature and allows optimum phenolic and alcoholic maturity. This combination of different terroirs is ideal to obtain a Châteauneuf-du-Pape with finesse, density, richness and elegance, together with a great ageing potential. 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre. Wine is aged 18 months, Grenache in concrete vats, Syrah and Mourvedre in barrels. Color: Deep red robe, pulling on purple. Aromas of wild strawberry-raspberry on the nose, with a spicy and toasted touch. Lots of gluttony. Fresh attack on the fruit, spicy notes that line the mouth and bring a sensual and chocolate finish.
