Uccelliera Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019, Tuscany, Italy

The Uccelliera estate is located in the warm southern Castelnuovo dell’Abate part of the Montalcino zone. Despite his family’s long connection to Montalcino, Andrea Cortonesi was only able to buy the Uccelliera property in 1986. His vineyards range from 150 to 350 meters above sea level. The Brunello is aged for 24 months in a mix of French and Slavonian oak. Andrea Cortonesi is tireless in his approach to winemaking, with all vineyard work done exclusively by hand. The wines have quickly become cult favorites amongst the cognoscenti. Tucked away in the southeast corner of the appellation in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, the soil here is loose and stony which when coupled with a warm microclimate gives the wines of Uccelliera a rich and ripe expression, vintage after vintage.
