Sass Pinot Noir Vieux Amis 2016, Willamette Valley, Oregon

Sass Winery is located in the South Salem Hills of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. The hazy, warm days and cool nights of autumn help the fruit develop intense, complex layers of flavor and aroma that produce wonderfully rich, elegant and forward wines. The vineyard, first planted in 1989, is in the hills of South Salem, facing east and south, at a gently rolling elevation of 450-530 feet. The soils are a well-drained silty red clay loam. The vines are vertically trellised and closely spaced at nearly 2,000 to the acre and are naturally farmed with no irrigation or invasive chemicals. Vieux Amis “Old Friends” is a blend from two estate vineyards, Wild Winds Vineyard and Walnut Ridge Vineyard. 2012 vintage – A muscular yet graceful wine with aromas and flavors of dark sweet cherry, black raspberry, earth and spice. Fine, supple, mature tannins with great mouthfeel and balance. The grapes were fermented in small, open-top tanks, then aged for 32 months in French oak barrels. It was not fined or filtered.
