Pillars of Hercules is an Estate Grown wine based on the three varietals that produce bold, robust reds in their Dunnigan Hills terroir: Petite Sirah, Petit Verdot and Teroldego. 2021 vintage – 67% Petite Sirah, 20% Petit Verdot, 13% Teroldego. This unique blend of three Estate Grown reds shows off its robust pedigree in the deep, dark purple color. The aromatics are a berry bomb of raspberry, dried cranberry and cherry that follow through to juicy flavors of boysenberry, blackberry and plum. The texture is rich and round with toasty oak, pepper spice and jammy fruit. Fine dusty tannins add structure; natural grape acidity brightens the long, lingering finish. Petite Sirah adds appealing flavors and aromas of sugar plum blueberry, violets, dark chocolate, and black pepper. Petit Verdot is the backbone of Pillars of Hercules adding firm tannins, great structure, and dense flavors of plum, blueberries and mocha. Teroldego, a northern Italian grape variety that thrives on the gravelly soils in the Dunnigan Hills vineyards. A dash of Teroldego adds the fresh, racy, berry character and good acidity that sets up the palate for another sip of Pillars.
