La Sirena Malbec 2019, Knights Valley, Sonoma County, California

Blend: 97% Malbec from Knights Valley, Sonoma County AVA; 2% Cab Franc, 1% Petite Sirah. 100% French oak barrels 40% new for 22 months. The 2019 Malbec from La Sirena is a deep ruby color, with an enticing pure nose of dark fruit aromas (blueberry, blackberry, currant), accented with notes of spice, dark chocolate, and an earthy note reminiscent of bark. Across the palate it is velvety and extremely well balanced. Great acid in the mid palate keeps it bright and lifted while still being quite rich and dense. A sultry, inky wine that isn’t quite ‘brooding’ – pensive, perhaps? Medium tannin provides texture and body, and the lingering finish will leave you wanting more of this delicious and unique Malbec. “Why ‘La Sirena’? The name means ‘the Mermaid’ in Spanish and Italian. I chose it because I’m a lifelong ocean lover, longtime scuba diver, and wanted a winery name that was fun & magical (like wine) and also personal to me.” – Heidi Peterson Varrett, Winemaker/Owner, La Sirena.
