Kokomo Sauvignon Blanc 2022, Timber Crest Vineyard, Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma County, California

Kokomo Winery is perched on the East side of Dry Creek Valley amidst the 120 acres of prime benchland vineyards of Timber Crest Farms. Owner and Winemaker Erik Miller started the winery in 2004 naming it after his hometown of Kokomo, IN, and decided on a Coastal Cypress Tree as a logo to signify his move out west. Kokomo Winery focuses their terroir-driven wines on the three distinctive appellations of Sonoma County – Russian River, Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys. 2022 vintage – 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Fermentation: 100% Barrel fermented, 10% new French oak, 5% new Acacia. The soil composition of this vineyard is Yolo Sandy Loam and the clone is Musqué. The canopy management included an extensive amount of leaf pull at the basal leaf zone to filter in plenty of sunlight to the cluster. Picking our Sauvignon Blanc at different ripeness levels gives this wine versatility and complexity. The natural acidity and citrus components of the earlier pick, and the more viscous mouthfeel and tropical components of the later pick, make this a layered Sauvignon Blanc. To further enhance the mouthfeel, we barrel fermented 50% of the wine in Acacia wood barrels, and stirred them weekly.
