Champagne Laherte Freres A Chavot Extra-Brut Ultradition, France

The Laherte estate was founded in 1889 by Jean-Baptiste Laherte. At this time, most of the vines were situated in a village known as Chavost. Aurélien Laherte is part of a dynamic, young generation of vignerons making waves in Champagne and producing a fine array of terroir-driven Champagnes using a natural approach to viticulture and winemaking. 60% Meunier, 30% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Noir, and 40% of reserve wines from previous vintages aged in barrels on lees. Grapes come from parcels across the Coteaux Sud d’Epernay, Valle de la Marne and Cote de Blancs. Aurelien Laherte ferments the wines in a mix of foudres, tanks and barrels with regular stirring of the lees. “Bright, appley and fragrant, this feels fresh and easy to drink, buttressed by taut, lively acidity. It finishes with brightly citrusy fragrance, its tangerine-like flavors showing energy and vigor.”
