Carlos Serres Viura – Tempranillo Blanco, 2023, DOCa Rioja, Spain

This famous French wine consultant, Carlos Serres, found in Haro the perfect terroir to produce Bordeaux-style wines, with climatic and geographical characteristics reminiscent of the best terroirs of Bordeaux. Originally located in the neighborhood of La Estacion de Haro, Carlos Serres’ winery was the fusion between winemaking techniques imported from France and the taste of a terroir with character. Two unique characteristics that supported the international expansion of wines that, in a few years, were already present on the other side of the Atlantic. This wine is 85% Viura, 15% White Tempranillo. White Tempranillo is an autochthonous, minority and exclusive variety of the DOCa Rioja, the result of a natural mutation of a strain of red Tempranillo found in a vineyard in Murillo de Rio Leza in 1988. With smaller bunches and berries than in the red variety, it offers wines with intense fruity and floral aromas, with a great personality. All the grapes of the Viura and Tempranillo white varieties come from agreements that the winery maintains with an exclusive group of winegrowers from the surroundings of Haro y Briones. After a brief cold maceration of the whole grape, the teardrop must ferments for 15 days at a controlled temperature of between 12 degrees C and 15 degrees C to preserve the varietal expression of the Viura and Tempranillo blanco varieties. Pale yellow and bright color. Fresh aromas of apple and pineapple, with light touches of white flowers. In the mouth it is fresh, very fruity with a great balance between acidity and fruit, and a long and pleasant persistence.
