Talley Vineyards Pinot Noir 2021, Rosemary’s Vineyard, Arroyo Grande Valley, California

This wine was produced entirely from Pinot Noir grapes grown sustainably by the Talley family at Rosemary’s Vineyard in Southern San Luis Obispo County, California. Rosemary’s Vineyard is located on a hillside surrounding Rosemary Talley’s home about one mile southwest of the Rincon Vineyard and is characterized by white, rocky fractured sandstone and loam, with some clay in the subsoil. Like the Rincon Vineyard, Rosemary’s Vineyard is steep and very well drained. It overlooks the ocean and receives the most direct marine influence of any of the family’s vineyards, making it the coolest site. Yields average less than three tons per acre. 3-5 day cold soak, fermented with native yeast in 1.5 ton fermenters. Aged 13 months in French oak barrels, 30% new. This wine is deep garnet in color, the mid-palate is firm with notes of black cherry and cranberry followed by layers of earth and soil, leading to ultra fine tannins.
