Renzo Masi Chianti DOCG Riserva 2020, Italy

The Masi family has been making wine for three generations. Fattoria di Basciano is the estate owned by the Masi family since the beginning of 1900. It is located right in the heart of the Chianti Rufina area, on the top of a hill overlooking the Argomenna valley on one side, and the right bank of the Sieve river on the other. The vineyards are at an elevation of 300 mtrs. on sea level, lying on a very stony soil, locally known as “Galestro”. The micro-climate is ideal for the ripening of the grapes. It is dry and breeze, marked by scarcity of rain and a remarkable range of night and day temperature in summertime. The Riserva is produced in very good vintages only, from Sangiovese grapes grown by selected producers of the Chianti areas, mainly from Rufina and surroundings. Grapes: Sangiovese 95%, Colorino 5%. Fermentation with maceration (skin contact) of about 25 days at controlled temperature between 25 degrees and 28 degrees C. Ageing in French oak barrels for 14 months. Deep ruby red color. Concentrated nose, showing plum and berry character. On the palate full and round, with soft tannins and a long fruity, peppery finish.
