Materra-Cunat Family Vineyards Midnight 2021, Oak Knoll District, Napa Valley, California

Each Materra wine is a perfect expression of the land, the grapes, the passion the Cunat family has invested in each bottle and the unyielding quality delivered consistently by the growing conditions and terroir of the Napa Valley. 2021 vintage: 45% Malbec, 21% Petit Verdot, 32% Merlot, 2% Petite Sirah. Aged in 47% new French oak for 18 months. Winemaker’s notes: 2021 Midnight has a deep purple hue and dominant notes of raspberry, red currant, and black tea, along with subtler notes of licorice and white pepper. The first sip reveals vibrant acidity and lots of red and blue fruits. Cocoa powder tannins and a little spicy oak fill out the mid-palate. This is a medium-weight wine, but the finish has surprising power and persistence.
