The Eifel family has its roots in the village of Trittenheim along the Mosel River. Heinz Eifel owns the Römerhof Winery, where his daughter Anne Eifel-Spohr is the chief winemaker. Over the past 20 years, the Romerhof winery has established long-term contracts with select growers who are advised to cultivate vineyards under exacting standards with restricted yields and specific harvest times. Fermentation takes place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. All wines are then tasted and blended by a committee of oenologists and sommeliers. The Heinz Eifel Eiswein (Ice Wine) is a gastronomic specialty made from hand-picked frozen grapes. These frozen grapes produce only a small amount of highly concentrated juice. Eiswein can age for many years or can be enjoyed now. This Eiswein was harvested from sandy/gravelly soils in the Rheinhessen in the early AM hours at the frigid temperature of below 14 degrees F with an astounding concentration of 145 Oechsle (over 33 Brix). Grape varieties: 70% Silvaner / 30% Riesling. Vineyard Site: Westhofener Bergkloster. Westhofen is a wine-growing village in the Rheinhessen. It is located between Worms and Alzey in Bereich Wonnegau.
