Domaine Pierre Usseglio Cuvee Premiere Pierre Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 2021, Rhone Valley, France

Domaine Usseglio is a family farm, dating back to 1948 when grandfather, Francis Usseglio, left Italy to work in Châteauneuf-du-Pape as a wine worker. Today the Domaine covers 39 hectares, 24 hectares of red Châteauneuf-du-Pape, 1 hectare of white Châteauneuf-du-Pape, 6 hectares of red Lirac, 6 hectares of Côtes-du-Rhône and 2 hectares of Vin de France. Half of the vines are over 65 years old, the other half is in their forties. Yields: low. Harvest: Manual. Sorting: Selective. This wine is 80% Grenache, 5% Syrah, 5% Cinsualt, 5% Mourvedre 5% White Clairette.. Winemaking: The red Châteauneuf-du-Pape is made in a traditional way. The vines are between 35 and 75 years old. The grapes harvested manually are 60% destemmed. The vatting is followed by thermo regulation, it lasts from 25 to 35 days. The wines are aged in oak barrels, in 1/2 muids, in concrete vats and barrels over a period of 12 months. A rainy spring followed by a hot and dry summer brings balance and finesse to our 2021 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Première Pierre. It exalts aromas of black fruits, raspberry, blackcurrant, prune with pretty tannins, silky and coated with a long and unctuous finish. A good ageing potential with high acidity and a moderate alcohol content.
