David Paige Chardonnay 2020, Willamette Valley, Oregon

Dave Paige has been part of the west coast wine industry for over 30 years. David Paige Wines is a new venture from former Adelsheim winemaker David Paige. The operation produces three Pinot Noirs, and this Chardonnay. Not at all weighted down by oak, this Burgundy-style wine finds a heavy note of lime leaf and lemon peel, creamy nougat, and barrel-driven vanilla in the mix. The finish shows more of that fresh lime character, a touch of green apple, and some spice – though that’s restrained. Crisp and pretty – and a solid jump away from the oak bombs of California – it just barely hints at florals on the finish. That said, it’s an approachable bottling that doesn’t at all overwhelm the palate.
