Trione Cabernet Sauvignon Block 21 2019, Alexander Valley, California

Vintage Summary: The 2019 vintage is best described as remarkable. The growing season was nearly ideal. Sonoma County experienced a few late rains in the month of May followed by a series of warm days that provided full flavor development and fruit maturity in all varieties. The crop load was perfect and the mild fall weather patterns ripened the fruit to perfection. Almost all of the grapes were off the vine when the Kincade fires hit in the northern Alexander Valley. Winemaking: This wine is a classic Bordeaux blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Malbec, 8% Merlot and 2% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Each varietal was hand-harvested and fermented separately, then moved to barrel, where they aged for 12 months. Once the blend was determined, the wine was returned to barrel for an additional 12 months, to ‘marry’ the varietals. Tight grained French oak barrels were used for this wine. Tasting notes: The Trione 2019 Block 21 Cabernet Sauvignon is a beautiful example of what Alexander Valley can produce. The region’s soil and the wines produced here are reminiscent of the Bordeaux region in France. This wine is classic in style; rich, silky, and vibrant with hints of black currant, raspberry, and blackberry notes on the nose. It’s silky, with a fine tannin structure and mid-palate which finishes long and smooth.
