Spy Valley Wines is situated on the sunny southern side of Marlborough’s Wairau Valley, nestled on the terraces of the Omaka River are the vineyards of Johnson Estate. The brand name Spy Valley® is derived from the presence of a satellite communications monitoring station (spy base) nearby, part of the Echelon Global Network. Region: Marlborough. Sub-regions: Waihopai Valley, Wairu Valley. Vineyards: Johnson Estate and friends. Geology: Waihopai Valley: Alluvial stony silt loams, very well draind. Mid Wairau Valley: Varying depth of alluvial silt loamm over gravel, well drained. Lower Wairau Valley: Deep alluvial silt deposits overe gravel. Winemaking notes: Harvested at peak flavor maturity. Gentle juice extraction, cold settled and fermented in stainless steel tanks. Entiicng aromas of passionfruit and orange blossom combine with layers of citrus. Vibrant flavors of grapefruit and blackcurrant. The mid palate is rich and textured wtih crisp acidity Vintage notes: A warm spring with higher than average frainfall led to early flowering. Low summer rainfall and cooler temperatures allowed the fruit to develop wtih perfect flavor maturity.
