Jadot Meursault 2022 750 ml, Cote de Beaune Villages, Burgundy, France

Meursault lies at the center of the Cote des Blancs, a region in the Cote de Beaune named for the quality and predominance of its white wines. The vineyards are chalk and white marl and are spread over gentle slopes between 230 and 360 meters above sea level; their desirable eastern orientation allows maximum sunlight. The grapes are handpicked and sorted, then gently pressed and fermented in oak barrels without artificial temperature control. Partial or no malolactic fermentation is permitted based on the vintage. A proportion of the wine is aged in barrels before bottling. The 2021 vintage was memorable for the extreme challenges it posed to growers. The defining event was a hard freeze in April which lasted several days, and the subsequent dramatic reduction in harvest volumes. Added to this were cool and wet summer conditions which required constant vigilance. The delayed harvest eventually yielded tiny volumes of pristine grapes which express a vibrant and energetic purity. Tasting note: Full and expansive upon entry, with subtle blend of citrus, floral, and hazelnut essence, then a long, elegant finish. Aging: 16 months in barrel, 1/3 new oak. Partial malolactic fermentation.
