Jadot Gevrey Chambertin 2021, Cote de Nuits Villages, Burgundy, France

Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin wines are produced from vineyards lying on the extension of the slope on which the Grands and Premiers Crus are situated. The fruit is sourced from growers with whom Louis Jadot holds purchase agreements based on the quality of the harvest each year. The grapes are handpicked and sorted, then undergo fermentation. After a long maceration, a proportion of the wine is set to age in French oak barrels. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration. The 2021 vintage was memorable for the extreme challenges it posed to growers. The defining event was a hard freeze in April which lasted several days, and the subsequent dramatic reduction in harvest volumes. Added to this were cool and wet summer conditions which required constant vigilance. The delayed harvest eventually yielded tiny volumes of pristine grapes which express a vibrant and energetic purity. Tasting note: This is a full-bodied and powerful red wine, yet with an elegant texture and refined presence. Aromas of bing cherry and mocha are intriguing, while over the long finish more subtle dried flower and spice notes emerge. 100% Pinot Noir.
