Valkenberg Madonna Spatlese 2020, Rheinhessen, Germany

Grape varieties: A cuvee of the traditional grape varieties Riesling, Muller-Thurgau, Silvaner and Kerner. Madonna is the first and original Liebfraumilch! Founded in 1786, the House of P.J. Valckenberg in Worms has more than 2 centuries of experience in bottling and exporting fine German wines. Rheinhessen, Germany’s largest wine region with its gentle rolling hills, is situated in the climatically favored large elbow formed by the Rhine River as it flows from Worms, to its sweeping bend around Mainz, and west to its next turn at Bingen. Due to riper grapes, the Valckenberg’s Madonna Spatlese (= late harvest) has expressive fruitiness, very outgoing intensive floral bouquet, delicate sweetness and rather soft acidity. “Spatlese” refers to grapes that are selectively picked at least 7 days after the main harvest starts for that specific variety.”
