Tofanelli Family Vineyard Charbono 2014, Calistoga, Napa Valley, California

Tofanelli Family Vineyard produces estate grown Zinfandel, Charbono, Grenache, Petite Sirah and Semillon wines in the Napa Valley town of Calistoga. The 2014 Estate Charbono expresses a floral bouquet of roses, violets, lavender and sweet pea. Fruit notes of rich, ripe blueberries and pomegranate syrup build the palate with some earthy undertones of tobacco and wet stone. Firm tannins and an undercurrent of acidity drive this wine to a racy finish. Harvest: hand-harvested early morning September 24, 2014. Must Treatment: de-stemmed (no crusher rollers), cold soaked 4 days, pump overs twice a day, pressed to barrel. Barrels: 20% new French oak, 2% one-year French oak, remainder neutral French oak. Barrel Aging: 18 months, racked 2 times. Final Blend: 85% Estate Charbono, 15% Estate Petite Sirah.
