Timeplace Wine Company Cinsault 2020, Bechtold Vineyard, Lodi, California

It all started with the wine – a passion to produce single varietals that are vibrant and fresh, from carefully sourced vineyard sites. The inspiration was found in the truth that wine is a perfect reflection of time & place, the climate & season, the site & study, and that moment you share a bottle with friends & family. Time 7:02:50am – 2016-07-14 – Thursday. Place: Stono River – Johns Island – South Carolina 32.778197° N , -80.094177° W. Artwork: John Duckworth, “My favorite spot off river road where I return regularly to climb down a bluff on the side of the road in my hip-waders and walk out into the marsh with my camera gear to document the changing color of the low country marsh.” Vineyard notes: Planted in 1886, dry-farmed, Delta influenced, Mediterranean climate, deep, fertile sandy loam soils. Organically farmed for 20 years!! Late May rains caused some significant shatter that lowered yields to 1.5 tons per acre. We harvested 1.5 tons September 4th. Tasting notes: 5 Whole Cluster, 1 Box Destemmed, Punch Downs in half ton bins, indigenous primary & secondary fermentation, aged in neutral French Oak barrels for 8 months sur lees. Ruby red in color, big expressive nose of strawberry blow pop, dark cherry, tarragon, and bright raspberry. Background notes of cassis & citrus peel, with a teeny, tiny hint of white pepper. Delicious medium bodied mouthful of ripe plum and baker’s chocolate. Long lingering finish of red raspberry & white pepper, tobacco and fine tannins.
