Terrapin Cellars Pinot Noir 2017, Willamette Valley, Oregon

Rob Clark is Terrapin Cellars owner, winemaker and vineyard manager for 30+ small vineyards in the Willamette Valley. He specializes in managing private vineyards from 2-10 acres in size, and he gets his choice of the best grapes. The grapes for this wine come from 3 small vineyards in the Eola Amity Hills AVA near Salem, Oregon. The wine was aged in 10% new oak and has appealing aromas of black cherry and cola. The cherry flavor continues on the palate iwth a juicy acidity and round mouthfeel that lead to a smooth finish. The wine was aged 10 months in oak barrels. There was minimal intervention in the winemaking to preserve the character and purity of the fruit grown in this unique region. The Willamette Valley is an ideal region for cool climate varietals like pinot noir and pinot gris because of the long growing season, the soils and abundance of excellent vineyard sites. Terrapin Cellars employs sustainable viticulture practices that will grow the best possible grapes on each site they manage.
