Stony Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 2014, Spring Mountain District, Napa Valley, California

“Year after year, decade after decade, Stony Hill wines have stood the test of time and changing palates. Our focus has always been on a lean, elegant old world style. Our first harvest was in 1952. That vintage was quickly consumed by friends and family and we have been diligently working to keep their supplies replenished ever since. The 2014 Stony Hill Cabernet Sauvignon is our 6th vintage of Cabernet and we all feel it may be our most beautiful one yet. The vines have finally matured to 10 years of age and are beginning to develop an earthiness that we love. We use almost no irrigation and pick before the fruit is excessively ripe. This produces a nuanced, food-friendly wine with integrated tannins, strong fruit, and a crisp acidic finish that follows in the Stony Hill tradition.” The nose on the 2014 has the vibrancy of bright red fruits, currants and raspberries, supported by the strength of concentrated leather and minerality. The palate starts with delicate and crisp notes followed by a more robust finish with nuanced black fruits and longevity inducing tannins. There is a savory, dark raspberry component to the finish that is completely enticing.
