Spy Valley Wines is situated on the sunny southern side of Marlborough’s Wairau Valley, nestled on the terraces of the Omaka River are the vineyards of Johnson Estate. The brand name Spy Valley® is derived from the presence of a satellite communications monitoring station (spy base) nearby, part of the Echelon Global Network. Sauvignon Blanc is grown in this Marlborough vineyard on stony riverbed terraces. Harvested predominantly in the cool of early morning, gentle juice extraction, and pressing under inert gas. Cool settled and mainly fermented in stainless steel tanks, around 6% of fermentation in oak barrels. Description from winery: Aroma // Grapefruit and lime zest, with sweet underlying passionfruit pulp. Palate // Dry with a vibrant acid tension, there is a sweet fruit character showing the classic Marlborough interplay of tropical fruits, citrus and zesty currant and guava flavors. Cellaring // Ripe flavors from a warm vintage, and a subtly firm structure give the potential for moderate cellaring. The initial sweet fruit character will diminish after several years, but expect pleasant drinking to at least 2022.
