Southern Belle Red Blend 2017, Vino de la Tierra de Murcia, Spain

50% Monastrell, 50% Syrah. A collaborative effort between longtime friends Dan Phillips (formerly of Grateful Palate and Marquis-Phillips) and Julian Van Winkle, Southern Belle is a treat for bourbon lovers and wine lovers alike. It was the first wine to use aged bourbon barrels in the vinification protocol. The wine is a blend of Syrah and Monastrell from southern Spain. “Medium deep opaque purple color with dark red rim. Initial aromas redolent of blackberry and blueberry with underlying hints of red fruits give way to pleasing complex elements of vanilla and toffee. Soft, big, yet elegant mouth feel, rich, full body, density, superb balance and grip, lead to long, long finish, carrying intense ripe fruit and complex flavors. Soft, supple, dramatic, sexy wine with a compelling yummy factor that screams ‘drink me’.”
