Sourced from throughout Shea Vineyard, this is classic Oregon and more specifically classic Yamhill-Carlton AVA Pinot Noir. The fruit for the Estate is sourced from throughout Shea Vineyard. The best way to understand Shea Vineyard in any given vintage is through the Estate, as the grapes used to make this wine are sourced from five different Pinot noir clones harvested throughout the vineyard. Aromatically the 2016 Estate expresses blue and black fruit, black cherry, hints of rose petal, and subtle spice notes. The palate is defined by lush blue and black fruit with a long finish and fine grained tannins. Shea Vineyard was first planted to wine grapes in the late 1980s. Today Shea Vineyard is a 200-acre property with 140 planted acres. 135 of these acres are planted to Pinot Noir vines and the balance is planted to Chardonnay. Shea Vineyard sits on sedimentary soil over fractured sandstone. Vine spacing is 5×7 yielding 1,245 plants per acre. Shea was one of the early vineyards in this area of Yamhill County and on this soil type.
