2017 vintage – Predominately from two Stags Leap District sites – Shafer’s hillside estate vineyard and ‘Borderline’ vineyard located about two miles south of the winery. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged 20 months in 100% new French oak barrels. One Point Five is an elegant. Silky Cabernet Sauvignon with soft tannins and abundant fruit that is approachable when young, yet capable of aging gracefully. This wine reflects the climate and soils of our Stags Leap District vineyard sites and Shafer’s commitment to meticulous, sustainable farming and quality winemaking. “In your glass the wine introduces itself with enticing aromas of red and black fruit, baking spice, dark violets, lavender, wet stone, and cinnamon. The promise of all that delicious complexity is fulfilled with a racy Cabernet Sauvignon full of energy – juicy flavors of red plum, cherry, cassis, black tea, and cola – all beautifully packaged together with ripe, bright tannins made for right-now enjoyment as well as long term aging in your cellar.” – Shafer winemaker Elias Fernandez. John Shafer started the winery in 1978, and his son Doug joined the family venture in 1983. They’ve worked side-by-side for so long it’s more like a generation-and-a-half story, or ‘One Point Five’. Today Shafer is 100 percent solar powered, they reuse and recycle their water, make their own compost for fertilizer. They partner with owls, songbirds, hawks, bats and other wildlife to cultivate successful vineyards and rely on cover crops to help control insects that would otherwise blight their vines.
