Senses Terra de Promissio Pinot Noir 2016, Sonoma Coast, California

Senses Wines is the dream of three childhood friends. Chris, Max and Myles partnered with critically acclaimed winemaker, Thomas Rivers Brown, to produce world-class wines from renowned vineyards owned by their families. The Senses estate vineyards are located in the West Sonoma Coast region of northern California, specifically in the small town of Occidental where the three founders grew up. The 2016 vintage marked a “return to normalcy” for many in Sonoma County. After the disastrous yields of 2015, most vineyards saw closer to average tonnage and the rains that followed the harvest were more than welcome to alleviate the drought. Favorable weather allowed for even ripening and full phenolic development without being pressured by extreme heat spikes, as with previous vintages. The Vineyard: Known as ‘The Land of Promise’, Terra de Promissio has an ideal terroir for pinot noir. The soil, southwest sun exposure, hill elevation, vine density and the wind and fog of the Petaluma Gap allow the grapes to have a slow maturation & extended hang time, which allows optimum ripeness ideal conditions for the pinot noir grape. “Pale ruby-purple colored, the 2016 Pinot Noir Terra de Promissio Vineyard opens with fragrant earth and dried herbs notions over a core of red cherries, pomegranate, rhubarb, and underbrush plus a waft of mossy bark. Light to medium-bodied with great freshness and understated, earthy flavors, it has a fine-grained frame and mineral-laced finish.”
