Powers Cabernet Sauvignon 2018, Columbia Valley Washington

2018 vintage – 97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Merlot, 2% Carménère. 1% Carménère from epic vineyard sites in Washington State. “With all these great vineyard sites to choose from, we were able to have the lots harvested from mid-September into early November. We took this opportunity to blend the perfectly ripe and balanced fruit with great acidity and tannin structure into a very complex yet approachable Cabernet. Most of the lots were fermented in our upright stainless-steel fermenters using PDM yeast with the exception of the Goose Ridge and Rivercrest Cabernets. Both of these lots we used our upright stainless steel upright tanks. This wine finished malolactic fermentation in tank and French oak barrels, then was aged for 22 months. 12% of blend were aged in new, 38% in 2-year-old, and the final 50% of the blend in 3-year-old French oak barrels.” Tasting notes: Savory notes of fennel and sage are backed by deep aromas of mountain blackberry, black raspberry, and cassis. Woven into this complex profile are notes of wet limestone and gravel. The palate follows suit, with black raspberry and black currant balancing sage and anise flavors. The dark fruit finish is complemented by balanced tannins, a mineral streak, and a touch of cedar.
