Pillars of Hercules Giguiere Estate Red Blend 2020, Dunnigan Hills, California

Pillars of Hercules is an Estate Grown wine based on the three varietals that produce bold, robust reds in their Dunnigan Hills terroir: Petite Sirah, Petit Verdot and Teroldego. 2020 vintage – 54% Petite Sirah, 27% Petit Verdot, 19% Teroldego. This unique blend of three Estate Grown reds shows off its robust pedigree in the deep, dark purple color. The aromatics are a beautiful mix of violets, dense black fruit, and chocolate. Juicy flavors of blueberry, boysenberry and blackberry jam are a nice counterpoint to the toasty oak and racy black pepper notes. The texture is full and viscous and hangs around for a long finish. Teroldego is a Northern Italian grape variety that thrives on the gravelly soils in our Dunnigan Hills vineyards. A dash of Teroldego adds the fresh, racy, berry character and good acidity that sets up the palate for another sip of Pillars. The Story: Strong, muscular, massive. Words that define Hercules when he planted two pillars astride the parting of the Strait of Gibraltar opening the old world to the new. When Matchbook set out to create a powerhouse wine, we chose to base our Pillars on the pillars of strength from the Dunnigan Hills: Petite Sirah, Petit Verdot and Teroldego.
