‘Abstract’ came out of Dave Phinney’s love of Grenache and a desire to make a blend using that varietal as the focal point. The wine has an inky concentration rounded out with Petite Sirah and Syrah. Abstract is a blend of Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino Grenache, Petite Sirah, and Syrah primarily from hillside vineyards. “Expansive aromas of ripe red fruits – raspberries, bing cherries and strawberries – and a touch of boysen- and huckleberries open the nose. The aromas continue onto the palate with added layers of charred meat, rhubarb, thyme, surrounding a dark fruit core. Smooth, enveloping and lasting, the wine finishes with a pleasing maraschino cherry note.” – from the Winery. Aged for 8 months in a combination of new and seasoned French oak, 30% new.
