Materra-Cunat Family Vineyards Midnight 2018, Oak Knoll Distric, Napa Valley, California

Each Materra wine is a perfect expression of the land, the grapes, the passion the Cunat family has invested in each bottle and the unyielding quality delivered consistently by the growing conditions and terroir of the Napa Valley. 2018 vintage: 46% Malbec, 31% Petit Verdot, 23% Merlot. Aged in 45% new French oak for 19 months. Winemaker’s notes: 2018 Midnight has a deep purple hue and aromatic notes of cranberry, red currant, and vanilla cola. The first sip reveals zingy acidity and a bit of nice spicy oak. The back palate rounds out with chocolatey notes and plenty of finely textured tannin. This is a medium-weight wine, but the finish has surprising power and persistence.
