Lang & Reed Cabernet Franc 2021, North Coast, California

“The base of this wine emanates from a little north of Lang & Reed, [north of Napa Valley that is] in the hills of Lake County. Two different vineyards from two of Lake County’s appellations are dominant components in this wine. To make the North Coast masala even more interesting, this vintage includes grapes from the T bar T Ranch in Alexander Valley/Sonoma as well as the famed Sugarloaf Vineyard in Napa Valley. Both of these vineyards are planted the Entav 214 Cabernet Franc clone. This expressive ‘Loire’ clone combines with each of the other vineyard components to offer a very broad palate of aromas and flavors that are rich, satisfying that displays the exuberant expression of Cabernet Franc. The 2017 North Coast is an effusively aromatic wine, notes of dark cherry, a little plum, dried herbs and an engaging earthiness that reminds one of Autumn. On the palate, the flavors are similar with rich plum, ‘sois bois’ (forest floor) and bell pepper impressions. It is medium weight, carrying refreshing tartness and savory notes to a long, smooth finish. typical from Lang & Reed. 100% Cabernet Franc. Aged in seasoned French oak barrels for 14 months.
