La Sirena Pirate TreasuRed 2019, Napa Valley, California

Heidi Peterson Barrett is one of the world’s most renowned and respected winemakers. Since the 1980s, she has created some of the Napa Valley’s most famous wines, including Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle, Grace Family, Paradigm, and many others. She started her own brand, La Sirena, in 1994, and began her collaboration brand, Barrett & Barrett, with her husband, Bo Barrett of Chateau Montelena, in 2008. The 2019 Pirate is very dark ruby in color with deep, ripe aromas of primarily black fruits – black cherry and wild blackberry, with nuances of vanilla, fruitcake, mocha, and a touch of savory smoked meat. Nicely layered fruit flavors with a plush, textural mouthfeel and good length. The tannins are moderate and silky, and the French oak is subtle and well-integrated. The overall impression is a big, voluptuous-yet-balanced mouthful of delicious flavors. 2019 made wines of great concentration and very good age-ability. this vintage is a blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Grenache, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Petite Sirah. 100% French oak barrels, 38% new, 22 months in barrel, variety of coopers
