Produced in a year unlike any other, this King Estate Willamette Valley Pinot Noir was sourced from like-minded sustainably farmed vineyards that were spared from historic wildfires. Tasting notes: The wine is an enticing deep ruby color. On the nose find aromas of dark cherry, strawberry, blueberry, rose, toast, clove and black tea. Supple yet firm up front, the wine boasts a rich mid-palate with flavors of fresh strawberry, black cherry, red plum, forest floor, tea and rose hips. On the finish, tannins are well integrated and complemented by buoyant acidity, resulting in a balanced wine with a lingering finish. Whole clusters are destemmed, cold soaked for 48 hours with daily pump overs, then left intact in select lots for additional complexity. For further concentration of flavor and color, 10% of juice is bled off using the Saignée method. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel open top tanks with daily punch downs. Aged 10 months in French oak barrels. Vintage notes: Marked by extreme and rare weather events, 2020 will nevertheless yield excellent wines. Up until Labor Day, conditions for wine grapes were mostly warm and dry although wide swings between early heat and cool weather in the spring led to high amounts of shatter with smaller berries and clusters. When extreme heat and winds converged, fires erupted and smoke blanketed the valley, affecting some vineyards and sparing others. Careful testing of our own lots and fruit from our vineyard partners allowed us to select fruit unaffected by smoke.
