Jadot Santenay Premier Cru Maladiere, Domaine Prieur-Brunet 2022, Burgundy, France

This significant Premier Cru parcel was acquired by Jadot in 2017 with the purchase of Domaine Prieur-Brunet. Extensive subsequent renovations to the vineyard have elevated this wine’s quality year after year. Centrally located on the slope and facing due southeast, this steep site is quite stony near the top with deeper clay soils as one descends. This vineyard takes its name from a hospital which treated travelers returning from the Crusades of the 13th century. The grapes bear small little dark red berries. The bunches are destemmed; they macerate in open vats for 4 weeks helping the subtle terroir to reveal itself. After devatting, the wines are aged in oak barrels for 18 months. Tasting note: This red wine is expressive with brightly focused floral and underbrush notes, tangy cranberry fruit, and elegant tannins. The wine opens quickly and is enjoyable soon after release when its fruit is most vibrant. 100% Pinot Noir. Aged 18 months in barrel, 1/3 new oak.
