Garciarevalo Casamaro Verdejo Blanco 2019, DO Rueda, Spain

2018 vintage – 85% Verdejo, 15% Viura. In the heart of Rueda is the family-owned winery of Garciarevalo. These Matapozuelos natives specialize in Verdejo farmed in their ancient vineyards, but they also farm a little Viura on the side. The sandy soils are scattered with the occasional ancient seashell, even though these vineyards are located in central Spain, at an elevation of 900 meters. The vines are 15 to 145 years old, and they provide a large amount of the free-run juice for Casamaro Blanco. Made from a combination of these old vines and other, younger plantings, the Casamaro Blanco is fermented in stainless steel, and then bottled directly from the tanks. 2018 vintage – “Lots of bright lemon peel and blossom on the nose. Great purity of fruit, with notes of quince, melon, and apricot. On the palate it’s mineral-driven, with a pleasant light bitter note on the finish.” – from the Winery
