2014 vintage – 84% Petite Sirah, 10% Zinfandel, 6% Carignane from York Creek Vineyard on Spring Mountain. Aged 10-1/2 months in American oak (40% new). York Creek Vineyard, named for the defining feature of the land that flows year-round through the property, is located high atop the Mayacamas range of mountains on the western edge of Napa Valley north of St. Helena. Perched at 1250 – 1800 feet above sea level with well-drained soil, its unique position in the Spring Mountain District is well known for producing dark and intensely flavored wines. The 2014 York Creek Petite Sirah is exuberant and dark! It is more floral than fruity on the nose. Lavender, violets, and orange blossoms rise above notes of raspberries and blueberries. It is on the full and weighty palate where fruit lives and is offered up in heaping servings of blackberries, cherries, and pluots accented by sweet vanilla and toasty oak. The wine is richly textured and full bodied on the palate with powerful fruit flavors that are balanced by firm, ripe tannins that lead to a long-lasting finish.
