Domaine Houchart has a 200 acre estate situated at Puyloubier, at the foot of the famed Mont Saint Victoire, 17 kms east of Aix en Provence. Since 1984, these wines have been commercialized by Vignobles Jérôme Quiot. Because of the size of the domaine, it is possible to take full advantages of a wide variety of soil types, with predominantly sandy, chalky soil and deeper beds of clay and silt. This allows adequate drainage of rainfall and ensures the vines are able to produce the best possible quality. In a region where 89.5% of the wine production is rosé, whites have a very small voice. But hidden behind this sea of Provence rosés are lovely, virtually unknown whites. While they account for only 3.5% of Provence’s output, they are nature’s perfection for summer sipping. The Domaine Houchart Blanc 2019 is a blend of 75% Clairette vieilles vignes and 25% Rolle. Special efforts are made to preserve freshness and fruit by the use of CO2 gas to exclude oxygen during the harvest. Spicy, aromatic and fruity, this is an immediately attractive wine. Its full of lemon, mango and orange peel, round and rich.
