Domaine Chanson Savigny-Dominode 1er Cru 2019, Burgundy, France

Savigny is a modest little village in the Cote de Beaune. According to Clives Coates MW, it makes for “a happy hunting ground for those who seek good inexpensive Burgundy.” The commune is know for being the most divided vignoble in Burgundy, with its 22 premier cru vineyards located on one of two sides – the Pernard side and the Mont Battois side. The premier cru of Dominode is located on the Mont Battois side, which tends to have sandier and less stony soil, producing wines that are more earthy, sauvage and structured. It is named after the latin “Dominus”, “Vineyard of the Lord” – an indication that this area was formerly owned by the Lord of Savigny. The vineyard is oriented North East, on a mid-slope. “Dark ruby color. Intense aromas of blueberries and elderberries. Well-structured and dense. The tannins are quite present and give an idea of the excellent aging capability of this wine. Long finish.”
