Domaine Chanson Beaune Clos des Mouches 1er Cru 2018, Burgundy, France

Grape Variety: Pinot Noir. Soil: Marl with sandy yellow limestone. Site: Chanson is one of the major owners of Clos des Mouches with a vineyard of 4.5 hectares. Ideal location on the hill at the southern end of the vineyards of Beaune on a spur pointing toward Pommard. A plot of 2.5 hectares is planted with Pinot Noir on a limestone subsoil covered with clay. The Vintage 2018: After a rainy winter, a heat wave in April followed by a cold period in May, the weather settled down in Burgundy with warm temperatures in June. Summer was warm and dry. It was punctuated by several heat waves which engendered a lack of water, compensated by the presence of clay in many plots. The harvest started in the last days of August with an excellent maturity of the grapes. Vinification: whole bunch fermentation for approximately two weeks, the wines are then aged in our XVth century cellar for a period between 14 and 18 months. Moderate use of new oak. Tasting: Dark ruby color. Complex and intense aromas of plum, black currant mixed with underwood and a hint of vanilla. Well-structured and broad-shouldered. Deep and dense.
