Dame De Boüard 2016, Montagne Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux, France

Hubert de Boüard has raised Chateau Angelus up to the firmament of the Right Bank wines. Hubert’s daughter, Coralie, joined him at Chateau Angelus in 2003. In 2016 she bought a small property in Montagne St. Émilion, with 35-year-old vines, prized clay and limestone soil, and excellent exposure. The second wine from Chateau Clos de Boüard, Dame de Boüard, is a wine that is easy to drink but not lacking subtlety. The weather for the 2016 vintage – a remarkable year-plays a large hand in the expression of the quality of the plots selected for this second wine. The plots of land are mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, which gives the wine its body. Stunning for a second wine. The blend for Dame de Boüard 2016 is 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose emits refreshing bouquets of ripe fruit, sweet spices and roasted herbs. In the mouth, the tannins are well-balanced with dominant fruit flavors. Ages 12 months in barrel.
